Whiff was written for Aileen Razey to perform at the 50th anniversary of the 2023 ICA ClarinetFest in Denver, Colorado. The three short movements depict important elements of ICA ClarinetFest: Grenadilla, for the wood that makes the clarinet, Gold, for the 50-year anniversary, and Mountains, for the host city of Denver, which is surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. For the world-premiere performance, each movement is paired with a custom-made fragrance from Paisley and Company.

The clarinet sings the 'songs of nature' in these seven short character pieces loosely based on  Aesop’s fables, from the shimmering stars to the tortoise and the hare, to the slippery serpent.
